Hang & Finish

Hang and finish is the work that turns a framed room into a finished room. Whether you're closing in a basement, adding a bedroom, finishing a garage, or building out a new addition, the drywall has to be hung square, taped tight, and sanded smooth before a single coat of paint goes on. For Columbus homeowners taking on a build or a remodel, this is the stage that sets the standard for every surface that follows.

It starts with hanging. We measure, cut, and fasten each sheet to the studs and joists, keeping seams off the corners where they're hardest to hide and staggering the joints so they don't line up in a ridge. We use the right screws at the right spacing, set just below the surface so they can be mudded over without popping back. Around windows, doors, and corners we keep the board tight and the cuts clean. Gaps behind the trim show up later as shadows.

Then comes the finish, and the level matters. A level-four finish is the standard for most homes: taped, mudded in three coats, sanded smooth, and ready for primer and paint. It looks flat under normal light and holds up in everyday rooms. A level-five finish goes further, a skim coat across the entire surface that leaves the wall glass-smooth, with no fuzz from the paper and no texture to catch the light. It's the right call for high-end spaces, rooms with bright raking light, or walls that will get a glossy or dark paint where every imperfection shows. Corners get attention throughout. We install metal or vinyl corner bead on every outside corner, set it straight, and mud it crisp so the corner reads as a clean line. Inside corners get paper tape embedded in mud and finished flush. Ceiling-to-wall joints and angle corners are taped and feathered so they don't crack with normal movement.

Around the openings, we keep returns and jamb extensions consistent so trim sits flat. We seal gaps that would let sound or air travel, and we make sure the board is backed where it needs to hold weight, behind a grab bar, a heavy mirror, or a wall-mounted TV.

The last stage is sanding and cleanup. We sand the mud smooth, knock down ridges, and vacuum the dust before we leave. The walls are primed and ready for paint, or we can take them to a paint-ready state and hand the color off to you.
