Texture matching is the detail people notice most, and it's the part that makes a repair disappear, or stand out. A patch can be perfectly flat and still be visible if the texture doesn't match the wall around it. Across Columbus, homes carry everything from smooth walls to knockdown, orange peel, and hand-troweled finishes, often mixed within the same house as additions and repairs were made over the years. Matching what's already there is how the work reads as one continuous surface.

We start by reading the existing texture. Knockdown is sprayed on and then knocked flat with a knife, leaving soft, flattened blobs. Orange peel is a finer spray that settles into a dimpled pattern. Hand-troweled finishes are applied with a knife and vary with the tradesman. Each one has a range, how heavy, how tight, how the edges break, and the match has to land inside that range or the eye catches it.

Before we touch the wall, we test on a board. We mix the material to the right consistency, adjust the spray or the knife work, and lay down a sample next to the existing texture. Once the blend reads right, we apply it to the repair and feather the edges into the surrounding surface so the patch doesn't sit inside a visible outline. For whole-room work, we carry the texture wall to wall so there's no seam between old and new.

Popcorn ceiling removal is its own job. Older ceilings across the area were finished with sprayed acoustic texture, and a lot of homeowners want it gone. It collects dust, it dates the room, and it shows every patch. We scrape the ceiling down, smooth the surface, and refinish it flat or with a lighter texture. If the ceiling has water damage, we cut out the stained section, check the framing above, and patch it before refinishing. We test for the obvious hazards before we start and contain the dust as we go.
